Dawn Hutchins’ design inspirations come from the everyday exotic – everything from striking architectural details to the rich fabrics of ancient cultures, and from Native American motifs to stunning Balenciaga couture gowns.  It is this juxtaposition of creativity which makes Dawn’s work both personally fulfilling and intriguing to the country’s top interior designers and art enthusiasts.

Dawn’s design aesthetic is not whimsical; rather it has a refined sophistication.  With over 30 years of experience in beading and embroidery, Dawn now incorporates many couture techniques into her work such as appliqué, embroidery, trapunto, couching and quilting.  Dawn’s specialty and passion is Tambour beading, a style that draws its roots from India and Tibet and was made popular by the Paris fashion houses of the 1920’s.

Dawn’s studio is set back in a wooded bluff in the town of Old Lyme, Connecticut where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound.  Her studio, with its stark white walls, fashion inspired art, and expansive skylights, invites Dawn to keep her eyes open to a world of inspiration.
